Hi. My name is Garrick. Few things about me: Professional Laugher. Ugly Smile. Gym Rat. Terrible Runner. Hip Hop Music. Positivity. Random Everything. Epic Quote Maker. Resolute Optomist. Welcome to my life.. or snippets of it at least. :)

Training.

I got to talking fitness with someone from work today. Good guy.. But after a few minutes of talking I could tell this guy was a bit of a meat head. “GOTTA LIFT BIG. EAT MORE PROTEIN. 1000 GRAMS PER DAY. GOTTA EAT LIKE 7-8 MEALS A DAY. WHADDAYA BENCH BRO. GYM ALL DAY”. Was actually quite an earful.

When I explain that I train my body for two specific things: (1) to combat the physical nature of my job, and (2) to keep a strong wiry frame that will benefit my golf game. I can see him starting to understand my point of view. I explain that I go into my workouts very purposeful, and maintain focus on what I’m doing. I keep my workouts quite short, but very high intensity. My lifts are specific and focused on the working the particular muscle group involved in the exercise.

I used to be all about lifting as heavy as my body could physically handle. I used to be all about training hard and staying in the gym for hours. However, those concepts were and still are detrimental towards my goals. I found that going to work with soreness in my body was significantly slowing my work efficiency. Not even going to mention what a travesty my golf swing became.

I don’t train for what Carlos wants me to look like. I don’t train for how much I can lift. Albeit I do train very heavy on certain days, a huge number on my lift will most likely not translate into better production for my goals. Take control. Train the mind to mold your body into something that you will appreciate. Out.
